Holy Grail Eyeshadow Primer

I’d like to introduce you to my new best friend – the NARS Smudge Proof Eyeshadow Base

NARS Smudge Proof Eyeshadow Base

Let me fill you in a little bit on my experience with eyeshadow primers…

It all started when I was on my makeup obsession journey – I purchased the Urban Decay Primer Potion because that was the holy grail of the internet. I assumed it would work for me too, but apparently not. I think it actually made my staying power WORSE than when I used nothing. That’s not to say that it was a bad product, it just didn’t work for me.

Then, I decided to try the Benefit Lemon Aid because even though I wanted a primer, I always wanted something to even out the redness of my skin. This worked better than the Urban Decay, but still not all day lasting.

I also gave the Maybelline Colour Tattoo a try, with and without both of these products. Still nothing.

Then I walked into Sephora one day and asked one of the girls to reccomend a new eyeshadow primer. When I told her that the Urban Decay wasn’t working at all for me, she actually looked at me like I had three heads. She told me to give the NARS one a try (the reason I love Sephora is that I can try stuff and return it if it sucks).

This is now my holy grail eyeshadow primer. I use it every day and it is so so so amazing.

If you’re having troubles with the Urban Decay primer, check this one out! I’ve used it with cream shadows, and regular shadows, and both mixed together and I can put it on before going to work, go out AFTER work, and come home with my shadow looking the same as it did that morning. It’s incredible.

YSL 5 Color Harmony For Eyes Review and Swatches

The YSL 5 Color Harmony for Eyes in #13 – Candy. I purchased mine at Holt Renfrew for $75, and Sephora sells it online only for $58. I first saw this palette in a magazine (sorry, I can’t remember which one), and I instantly knew I had to have it.

If you watched my March Favourites video, you already know my feelings about this eyeshadow palette.

I’m basically in love with it. I think if it were to become legal to marry a product, I would choose this one.

First, let’s just start with the signature YSL packaging:

It’s gold, and it’s beautiful.

Open it up, and things just get better:

YSL 5 Colour Harmony For Eyes

It’s hard to tell in this photo, but the green in the middle has YSL imprinted in it. I’ve actually been using this colour and only taking shadow from around the logo so I don’t ruin it.

If you know me in real life, you probably know that I enjoy bright colours. Enjoy is probably an understatement. If I’m not wearing something bright people get concerned. These colours just perfectly fit my personal style which is a huge reason as to why I love this palette. The palette also comes with two double ended eyeshadow sticks, I removed them while taking this picture because I’ve been using them.

Here are some swatches of all the colours:

These are quite dark swatches, I probably put on three or four layers of the shadow just so the colours would appear in the picture. What I love about these shadows is that you can wear them as a sheer pop of colour, or you can layer them and really intensify your look. All of the shadows are quite sparkly as well, which I personally enjoy.

The formula on the shadow itself is great, I haven’t noticed any creasing, even when I don’t wear a primer.

Now…as much as I LOVE this palette – I honestly think the price is outrageous. If Urban Decay, or MAC or MUF or anyone had come out with the same palette and it was cheaper I would have bought that instead. But they didn’t, and sometimes you just have to splurge on things you know will make you happy.

Do you have this palette or any other YSL palette? What are your thoughts? I’d love to know!

Morning Skin Routine

I spent a lot of time (and money!) trying out different skin products throughout the years, and I wanted to share what works best for me.

I used to always use whatever random product looked cool at the drug store, but now I’ve moved on to exclusively using Kiehl’s products. There’s a few reasons for this…

  1. Obviously, because they work for me and I’ve seen amazing results
  2. I never feel pressured to purchase something when I walk into the store
  3. The staff are SO helpful in finding a product that is right for you, and sharing the success they’ve had with the product
  4. You get free samples with EVERY purchase

Here are the products I use every morning:

Kiehl's Ultra Facial Cleanser

First, I wash my face with the Ultra Facial Cleanser

Kiehl's Blue Herbal Toner

Then I use the Blue Herbal Lotion on areas of my face where I usually break out

Kiehl's Acne Blemish Control

Next I apply the Acne Blemish Control Treatment in the spots I normally break out

Kiehl's Ultra Facial Cream

I finish it off with the Ultra Facial Cream on my entire face

That’s it! 4 easy to use products! Once the Ultra Facial Cream dries, I put my makeup on right over top. My skin care routine changes at night, and when I’m having breakouts and I’ll share those with you soon!
